The Lira Group Dance Company first facility opened doors on 28th of May, 2007 to serve as a hub for the advancement of dance culture, and for studying and teaching Bulgarian and Cuban folklore. The founders of the dancing school are Angel Bobev /Cuban salsa/ and Loreta Dimitrova /Bulgarian folklore choreography/.
They run two dance halls in Sofia, and another ones in Blagoevgrad and Kostinbrod. Other professional instructors and rehearsal performers join the Lira Group team soon after:
.
The Lira Group Dance Company emerged as a dancing school, which captures and revives the traditions of two nations – the passion of the Cuban salsa and the spirit of the Bulgarian horo. As it went on, the Lira Dancing School expanded its repertoire to discover traditional dances of nations across the globe, studying choreographies on-site in their places of origin: in search of ancient traditions and customs, the school organized tours to remote corners of the world. We visited the birth place of Salsa, Cuba, in October 2007, and the home of Bachata and Merengue, the Dominican Republic in May 2008, Northern India - November 2008, Barcelona - June 2010.
A number of TV shows and competition folowed: bTV show - "The Bulgarian talents", Bulgarian National TV festal concert "3rd mach", TV2 Vuchkov's show guest, third place at the Grand Prix dance Sofia, 2010 .
The school is unique for its mixed folklore choreographies, which appeal for a world of dance without borders, where people from different cultures are able to express their identity through music and dancing. The school’s talented choreographers blend together the folklore of different nations.
The school leaders believe that dancing brings people in and lets them relate to others a mature and responsible way, and that belief is reflected in the school’s motto: Dance without Borders!
