From the earliest times, our ancestors sought to pass on their energy from hand to hand, and that’s how the dancing in circle originated. Circle dances on the Balkans were called similar names, like the Bulgarian horo, Serbian kolo, Macedonian oro, Greek horos. In Cuba, that same passion takes shape in the local rueda de casino.
The school is unique for its mixed folklore choreographies, which appeal for a world of dance without borders, where people from different cultures are able to express their identity through music and dancing. In only six months the school debuted its first mixed choreography – Il Barbere di Kyustendil – blending together Salsa and Kyustendilska Ruchenitsa. At their first carnival on February 14th, the school presented their latest mixed choreography of Malishevsko horo and Merengue. The performance is called Elitsa. For their tour to India, the school is working on an original Caribbean bachata with Indian mudras Punjabi.
The school leaders believe that dancing brings people in and lets them relate to others a mature and responsible way, and that belief is reflected in the school’s motto Dance without Borders!
